Lol, been awhile. College is busy.
Updates: Selling the Mazda. So much rust, no tuning options, and the transmission took a shit on me. Ended up swapping in a new one myself, which was a royal pain in the ass, and it was the final straw. I'm done with the car. I can't put myself through any more maintenance. I've done a lot on the car, but it just keeps getting worse, and it's time to get rid of it before it gets any worse.
I've been watching Texas Craigslist like hawk for manual fun cars under $5000. But selling my own car has been a big chore as well, nobody has been serious so far.
God I hope it sells. I can barely look at the car anymore.

Just get an early 2000's BMW 3-series, they are a dime a dozen in Texas for under $5000. Those guys are plenty easy to work on too, and parts are reasonably common.
Here's one I found with 2 seconds of searching:

What college are you at?

Texas A&M. I thought about E46s, but I'm worried about reliability and ease of maintenance (as in ease of replacing parts). I have been bookmarking them.

From what I understand, they are plenty easy to work on, just get a good set of metric tools and some Torx stuff. They are pretty well laid out, and I doubt finding parts is a problem at all. Reliability wise, I would put straight-6 BMW's at the very top of the European reliability charts (maybe with a few Volvo's here and there on the list).
